Going from SolidWorks to Catia

Going from SolidWorks to Catia

Going from SolidWorks to Catia

(OP)
I've been using SolidWorks for years, and recently changed jobs where they use Catia. Any quirks I should look out for? I got a few tutorials from a coworker. Are there any good tutorials out there that might be recommended? Thanks!

RE: Going from SolidWorks to Catia

On the general SolidWorks to Catia transition, I'll offer a few tips. My company uses both SW and Catia V5, so I hear a lot of gripes either way.

Tip 1) Catia is not SolidWorks. I should probably repeat that. Don't let the name on the box fool you; ignore the fact they both say Dassault. The two programs are fundamentally very different. If you spend all your time asking why Catia doesn't behave like SW, you will end up frustrated and grumpy. Better to invest your time learning how Catia works.

Tip 2) Search this forum for the word "SolidWorks," I think you'll find a lot of answers to your questions. It's not the first time for someone to transition.

Tip 3) Catia has a multitude of Design-In-Context features that are very powerful, but also have lots of rules. I suggest you get really comfortable with V5 before letting yourself start creating all sorts of links between parts and products.

And the last one, just for fun, they're called "constraints" not "mates." :)

Cheers,
Mark

RE: Going from SolidWorks to Catia

Constraints sounds so brutal, like a prison warden. Mates on the other hand is like: "hey you two make a nice couple, you belong to together, you should be mates"
