Simple Pattern Question

Simple Pattern Question

Simple Pattern Question

(OP)
I'm sure there is some way to do this but I can't figure it out.  I have a plate with a hole pattern in it that I am trying to model.  The holes are spaced 1" apart and go from a diameter of 1" down to 0.2" in 0.2" increments (ie 1.0. 0.8, 0.6...).  I can pattern the holes linearly to get the 1" hole-to-hole spacing but can't figure out how to pattern the diameter so it reduces as well?

Thanks!

My vary sketch option is grayed out.  And I'm not sure what you mean by an "angled sketch line" to control the diameter?

RE: Simple Pattern Question

your vary the sketch is greyed out, because your hole is fully defined, take the dia dim off in the sketch, then dimension that when you select vary sketch in the linear pattern.

Hmmm... I can't look at the part as I'm running SW2010.  Could you post a screenshot instead perhaps?

Also, I can remove the diameter and all locating dims to the hole yet my vary sketch is still grayed out when I try to do a linear pattern?

RE: Simple Pattern Question

Make sure you are selecting a dimension (not an edge) to apply the pattern direction.

RE: Simple Pattern Question

I matched your sketch but it still isn't working.  I can get it to pattern linearly and the vary sketch option is active when I pick the .750 dim now but when I try to pick the diameter 1.000 as dim 2 it gives me an error message.

I'm just going to cut individual holes for now. Thanks for trying to help out.

Seems like this might be a good ER to submit to more closely duplicate Pro/E functionality.

I really like SW much better than Pro/E but there are some things Pro/E just did better/easier.

RE: Simple Pattern Question

Do not pick the Ø1 as dim 2. The diameter is a driven dimension only to show the size.

Only the Direction dimension and the feature itself need be selected.
