Steel specification conversion/cross referance
Steel specification conversion/cross referance
(OP)
Hello to all.
I am in the freight and transit railroad industry as a Welding Mfg. Engineer/CWI. I am currently qualifying welding procedures and am having to deal with several AISI steels. Is there a way that the AISI numbers can be cross referenced to an ASTM standard? I am trying to group my material to cut down on the number of qualifications and total costing.
Thanks for the input!

Thanks, I have looked at this website many times and it has proven to be helpful. There are several materials that I need a cross reference on and they are not listed on Matweb.
Thank you for the reply

AWS B2.1 Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance
Qualification
There is a Table D that provides base metal grouping for welding. Each metal is listed by Grade, Type, etc with corresponding ASTM specification number followed by an AWS M-No grouping number for welding.

For purposes of weld qualification, yes.
