(OP)
whats the Motor %ed number representing?

RE: Motor %ED

ED means "Einschaltdauer" and is the same thing as Duty Cycle. A 15 % ED motor can be loaded with rated load during 15 percent of a specific time period - usually 30 minutes - if it is allowed to cool the rest of the time.

This means that you can run the motor at rated load for 4.5 minutes and then wait for 25.5 minutes before you load it again. It could also mean that you have ten 27 seconds load periods spread over 30 minutes. Or any combination as long as the sum of load periods is no more than 15 % of the cycle time. If you find the word "Spieldauer" or "Dauer", it will tell what the cycle time is. If not given, it is usually safe to assume 30 minutes.

"ED motors" can not be run continuously and sometimes need special control or protection to make sure they aren't.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

RE: Motor %ED

Hi, Skogsgurra,
I am not quite sure that this time is "30 minutes". I think it could be 10 minutes unless otherwise indicated.
This label (ED%) is usually associated with the designation S1, S2,.... S8 (duty cycles).

RE: Motor %ED

Yes Zlatko, you are probably right. It used to be 30 minutes in the days when motors weren't working so close to their limits and cooling was less effective. It probably is 10 minutes today. It should be stated on the nameplate if the manufacturer has done his job properly.
