Definition of "gasket seating surface" (ASME PCC-1 Appendix D)

Definition of "gasket seating surface" (ASME PCC-1 Appendix D)

Hi,

Are there anybody out there who knows the technical definition of this term?

"gasket seating surface" (gray region marked in Fig D-2 in attachment)

It appears from the figure to be about half of the raised face area, but I cannot find anything written in PCC-1 to back up that assumption.

All help is very much appreciated!

RE: Definition of "gasket seating surface" (ASME PCC-1 Appendix D)

It is just what is says it is - the area on the flange where the gasket sealing surface sits i.e. with a sheet gasket it would be from the gasket I/D to the outside of the r.f., or with a spiral-wound joint it is from the sealing element I/D to O/D. These diagrams refer to the amount of damage or defect that the seal can hopefully accommodate.

Of course... :) Thanks a lot for your help!

I om only used to working with sheet gaskets, and they basically cover the entire RF - that is what confused me... Didn't think about spiral-wound gaskets.

Anyway, thanks again!
