Using the Join feature with Configurations

(OP)
Hi all,

I've been searching for a while, but can't find a way to change the configuration of one of two parts that have been joined together.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Using the Join feature with Configurations

Same as in a regular assy ... select the part, click the properties icon, and select the config.

What is happening when you try?

RE: Using the Join feature with Configurations

That's a Combine ... which is used in a part!
The thread title stated Join ... which is used in an assy.

Apologies, it is a combine. I am not an expert with Solidworks by any stretch of the imagination and it was the first time I had used the features.

That said, any insights on how I change the configuration of a part in a Combine? Or do I have to recombine them?

RE: Using the Join feature with Configurations

The config can be changed under the List External Refs option.

I'm running SW2010-SP4.

This was a while ago, so hopefully I'm not forgetting a step.

Opened the edi top test slant.SLDPRT file
Went to Insert->Part
Selected transducer.SLDPRT
Positioned the transducer housing where I wanted it on the case
Clicked Combine, Add then ok and the two parts merged.

RE: Using the Join feature with Configurations

Try inserting both parts into a new part, and then Combine.

RE: Using the Join feature with Configurations

The configuration option should be as CBL stated... in list external references.  It was there as far back as I can remember... ~2003 at least.

Thanks CBL, that worked a lot better. Now I have access to the configuration options again. Thank you so much for your help!
