what kind of sluice gate? irrigation, wastewater, flood control, spillway gates? slide gates, stop logs, trunion, floodgates, irrigation turnouts?  there are many different uses for sluice gates and what do you mean by background? the simplest sluice gates which are stoplogs have been around for centuries. they are used to control the flow of water. what more background do you need?
