Interior demising wall

Interior demising wall

(OP)
I am looking at a 20'steel stud non-bearing demising wall inside an enclosed building (strip mall) in Phoenix.  I have had a few different people tell me the minimum interior wind loading required on this wall.  I usually go with 10 psf on interior walls, but I cant find a section in the 2006 ibc or ASCE 7 - 02 on it.  Any input would help.
Thanks,

RE: Interior demising wall

IBC has a minimum interior load on walls of 5 psf, but it's a live load, not a wind load.

RE: Interior demising wall

IBC 2006 Section 1607.13:

Interior walls and partitions that exceed 6 feet in height, including their finish materials, shall have adequate strength to resist the loads to which they are sujected but not less than a horizontal load of 5 psf.

thanks guys.  I will go with the 5 psf.  Appreciate it thoroughly.

RE: Interior demising wall

There are times when 5 psf is not enough.  Internal pressures in a building are dependent on the location of openings on the exterior walls, so it may be a good idea to consider the potential for internal pressure differentials across a demising wall higher than 5 psf.
