Sectional Curves for STL Graphic Body

Sectional Curves for STL Graphic Body

(OP)
Hi Guys,

I have Scan data in STL Format for which i need to develop parametric model in solid works.

I am unable to import the data as a Solid or Surface body.It is showing message (This STL Model has too many surfaces. Please import this kind of models as Graphic Body).

Now My Problem Is I am not able to create any sectional curves using Graphic Body.

Is there any way to extract sections from Graphic Body?

Looking forward for your valuable suggestions.

Thanks In Advance.

Do you have SolidWorks Premium?

Yes I am using Solid works Premium

A Graphic Body is just an image. It is of no use when trying to create a model. Although I guess you could use it to manually trace around.

Nalinikanth,

You are encountering one of the fundamental problems of using an STL file.  Your best bet is to try to get the file in a different format, preferably Parasolid or ACIS.  Since it is from a scan system you should check to see what its output options are.

Thanks For your Suggestions Guys.

Will try to get data in different format.

Perhaps the person doing the scan can decrease the resolution so you end up with less faces? Of course if you take this too far you won't have enough definition to be useful, try to find a happy medium.

RE: Sectional Curves for STL Graphic Body

Go to your Tools > Add-Ins and check on ScanTo3D. Now when you open a file, notice in the filetype dropdown at the bottom you have a few extra formats now. Try to open your STL with the bottom ScanTo3D STL format selected. You may get better results, eitherway with the tools in ScanTo3D you can easily take section curves or lay out surfaces on your scan model.
