ASME B31.3 Case Operation no processed CAESAR

ASME B31.3 Case Operation no processed CAESAR

ASME B31.3 Case Operation no processed CAESAR

(OP)
Hi everybody!!

I´m a beginner in flexibility analysis on pipe lines. I´m beginning to use the CAESAR II but I have some questions.

It is supposed that all lines (almost more than 99%) must meet ASME Code Requrements. In CAESAR, when you run the analysis for a pipe system, you have at first momment the following cases:

-HYD Loadcase
-OPE Loadcase
-SUS Loadcase
-EXP Loadcase

Why CAESAR II on OPE loadcase mentions that NO CODE STRESS CHECK PROCESSED. It means that it is not necesary to MEET as code says. (I´m talking to ASME B31.3)because in the code says something about sustained and occasional loads. Or I´m getting wrong with something?

Please help!

RE: ASME B31.3 Case Operation no processed CAESAR

You're on the right path.  There are no code requirements explicitly for an operating stress.  There are for hoop, sustained, occasional, and displacement (i.e. expansion).

The design chapter of the B31 codes isn't that long.  Take the time to read and understand that chapter at least.  Know the equations especially and what they entail.  It will be time well spent.

You might loosly call it "combined stress".

Hi to all!!!

Thanks StevenhPerry. I gave into account that expansion loadcase is the difference between Operational and Sustained loadcases. In fact, maybe CAESAR will not warn you about NOT MEETING stresses according to code but if in expasion loadcase is high, and I mean that expansion depends on operational loadcase, the result you have will not be passed by ASME CODE even though ASME CODE do not indicate on itself. Am I wrong?

I will review complete B31.3

Thanks!!!

RE: ASME B31.3 Case Operation no processed CAESAR

The default Code Compliance cases for B31.3 are Sustained, Expansion, and Occaional.  When you review the (stress) results of these load cases, CAESAR II states "pass" or "fail" at the top of the report.  As of Version 5.30, static load cases that "fail" the Code Compliance criteria are listed in "red text" on the output menu.
