Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

(OP)
Good day to all!
I need to know what type element and configure the following situation.
Component can deform freely up to a maximum displacement. Restricting the movement of an area of nodes, only to reach the maximum limit.
Greetings from Argentina.
Excuse my English
Understand me?

RE: Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

what limits the displacement ?  contact with something else ??

RE: Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

Hello!,
You need to use CGAP node-to-node contact elements, this element allows the user to define a maximum allowable displacement once upon reached the element is closed working with the stiffness defined by the user. The typical applications are to simulate the wall effect where the gap distance = 0 and the GAP is working in compression with a stiffness = 1e6.

You can define the GAP working at tension or compression, but please note you must be consequent with the type of analysis you are doing: linear static support only small displacements, then if you prescribe a large allowable displacement to the CGAP element then he results could be meaningless and should require to run a nonlinear analysis.... so use common sense to make FE models.

Also revise the NX NASTRAN manuals, all is in the docs ...

Best regards,
Blas.

RE: Restriction of movement of nodes, only when they reach a fixed maximum

I posted a video on Youtube on how to do with Nastran's CBUSH element and a Displacement vs. Force curve.  Please take a look at it and let me know if you have any additional questions.
