Painting on cast bronze

Painting on cast bronze

Painting on cast bronze

(OP)
Hi,

does someone know a paint system that will work on cast bronze? I need to paint some machined parts for sea water pumps which will be used in a marine environment. I don't know what the particular alloy is but most likely the parts contain lead.

any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,,,

RE: Painting on cast bronze

?

Are you not using a bronze that is resistant to seawater corrosion?  If so, why paint it?  If not, do you expect a coat of paint to make it resistant?  If just for looks, I'd expect any decent epoxy paint to hold up well.

RE: Painting on cast bronze

Hi.  The copper in your cast bronze will oxidize (and dis-bond) at temperatures below typical heat cures of many epoxy- and phenolic-based paints known for their corrosion resistance.  This makes paint adhesion difficult.

Consider 3M ScotchKote 134: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Corrosion/Protection/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U52300NAF02J1MHGK22C53_nid=0CTKNFP9X7be13QRJVC6DLgl.

Best wishes.
