Intermitent flow in Safety Shower / Eye Wash

(OP)
In our routine Safet checks, a Safety Shower was flunking the "bucket" test due to intermittency of flow of water. It was found that the main cause was "hardness" particles plugging the shower head spray nozzles and the eye wash internal tubing (& filters). Our recommendation is to flush the water supply system, thoroughly clean the Safety Shower (shower head & eye wash plus internals) and install a set of water filters. What has been the type of filters, if any, that have been used in similar situation? Are regular potable water filters adequate? Any size, type recommended?  Airbus
