PQR using EN materials listed in sec IX

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

Is it possible use a PQR(prepared acc. to Sec IX) with EN material S235JR (which is listed in Sec IX table QW/QB422 as P1 material) for manufacturing stamped Sec I Boiler or Sec VIII vessel from P1 material (eg SA516)

Is there any restriction etc.

RE: PQR using EN materials listed in sec IX

You are asking, could a WPQR that was qualified using EN S235JR base material be used to develop a WPS for welding SA 516 material, the answer is yes since Section IX has assigned a P-No (1) for this material.

RE: PQR using EN materials listed in sec IX

You may have a restriction if impact testing is required.  The EN S235JR should also have a group number listed with the P-number.  Make sure the P-No. and Group No. match if your vessel requires impact testing.

Impact testing not required in my case.

A senior eng. told me if a material not listed in Section 2 tables it cannot be used to qualify WPQR. S235JR not listed Section II D tables.

But i could not find any code reference supporting his argument. Does his argument valid?

RE: PQR using EN materials listed in sec IX

This is incorrect information. Section II Part D deals with material allowable stresses for pressure retaining use.
