Cutting out nozzle and welding new one in over old weld

Cutting out nozzle and welding new one in over old weld

(OP)
Has anyone got any recommendations or things I should be watching out for?.

I intend to cut off a 2.5" set in full pen nozzle off a pipe so that the finish is approx a dia2.5" hole flush with the pipe then cut a 3.5" hole offset from the initial CL so that when I set my new 3" nozzle in some of the shell material will be the old nozzle material.

I know it is not recommended practice to be welding through previous weld material like this but it is unavoidable, the code is B31.3.

RE: Cutting out nozzle and welding new one in over old weld

1. Recommendation, don't do it. Refer to API 510 and your AI for guidance.
2. Watch out not to be caught, if you still decide to do it on your way.

Cheers,

Agree with the above post even tough it is done quite often.
I would insert a pup piece and set in a new nozzle or use a Weld-O-Let on the pup.
