Piping selection for LPG

Piping selection for LPG

Piping selection for LPG

(OP)
I am providing a new piping run for LPG delivery at 10PSI to a new water heater.  The run will be about 160' long, and it can either go underground or attached to a concrete wall.  Underground has the inherent risk of unknown objects or other utility lines that could be hit.

Can someone recommend piping selection, and relative costs for either the underground or the wall mount?

Also if wall mount, is thermal expansion of the piping a big enough concern to put in some type of expansion loop or fitting?  This will be in Hawaii.  The ambient temperatures are very constant, however, the sun is quite strong and sunlit items can become very hot.  The wall mount pipe run would see direct sun in the AM up until around noon.

Black steel?  PTFE? other thermoplastic?  Thank you very much.

RE: Piping selection for LPG

Steve!

We have used seamless carbon steel pipes for gas stoves. (in the canteen). For applications where LPG is required for Bunsen Burners, it is through 8MM stainless tubing with swagelok fittings and these tubes come with plastic shield.

Note: It is a practice but not checked any codes.

Regards,

RE: Piping selection for LPG

You will want to check NFPA 58 and the UPC befiore going further.

Assuming this is sweet LPG, a good choice might be Fletcher-Coat or X-Tru Coat.  X-Tru-Coat is HDPE coated carbon steel.  I think Fletcher Coat is an FBE but would somebody please correct meif I'm wrong.

Thanks!
Pete
