Teamcenter spreadsheet question

Teamcenter spreadsheet question

Teamcenter spreadsheet question

(OP)
I have got an assembly with a couple of different parts. Some dimensions in the parts are read from a spreadsheet. Array settings in the assembly is also read from the same spreadsheet.

The assembly and spreadsheet is supposed to be used as a template for future use. My problem is that all the references to the spreadsheet looks like this: ug_excel_read( "C:\Users\jjl\Documents\settings.xls", "b2" ). When using the template the spreadsheet name have to be changed which means that many ug_excel_read("c:\path\filename.xls", "cell" ) has to be changed.

Im thinking is it possible to put the spreadsheet in Teamcenter and what would the path to the file look like in that case?

If it is possible to have the spreadsheet in Teamcenter my next question is if the cloning capabilities also work for the spreadsheet.

I have not had the opportunity to look at the cloning capabilities in Teamcenter as i just read about them here in this forum.

RE: Teamcenter spreadsheet question

If your IT department will allow saving documents (pdf, doc, xls, etc.) to Teamcenter then a lot of the naming issues should go away. Also, it should preserve the data integrity of the xls file as your C drive could puke.

I cannot verify if this is allowed, nobody here knows. I cannot find where to upload my spreadsheet in Teamcenter. Can someone please direct me so i can see if this is allowed?

RE: Teamcenter spreadsheet question

In Teamcenter, try File new dataset. In the newly opened window scroll down to MSExcelX. Create the file, add something to a cell. Try to save it. Then try to open it. If it opens the you are good to go. I can not give you the process, we can not use this handy feature where I work.

RE: Teamcenter spreadsheet question

You should find out if your license allows for the addition of such files to Teamcenter before you proceed. Where I used to work we had the very basic level of TC and while it was possible to add non-CAD files (.pdf, .xls, .doc, etc) we didn't actually have the license to do it. We were warned by our sales rep that a future patch could potentially take that ability away unless you had the proper license.

wecurb, i was able to create the file and it opens ok and i can edit and save, no problem!

New problem is when i try to use ug_cell_read or ug_excel_read in my part and choose "Teamcenter Integration for NX" to browse for my newly imported Excelfile, i cannot find it? I have restarted NX but no luck.
