Non-Standard (Non-ASME B16.5) Pipe Flange?

Non-Standard (Non-ASME B16.5) Pipe Flange?

Non-Standard (Non-ASME B16.5) Pipe Flange?

(OP)
Hi all, new user here.  Here is my question:

I have a 24" OD SecVIII pressure vessel in our lab that we need a new flange for.  The description of the flange on the drawing BOM is [1-3/4" x 28-3/4" OD Plate Flange].  I attached a pic showing the dimensions:

OD is 28.75"
Bolt Circle Diameter is 27"
20 bolts
flange thickness = 1-9/16"

The problem is, the dimensions of it aren't in agreement with ASME B16.5 (Std. for Pipe Flanges/Fittings) for a 24" Class 150 Flange. i.e. according to ASME, the OD should be 32" and BCD should be 29.5.

Is there some other standard that governs this flange?  Can flanges be made to non-standard dimensions?  Is this allowed for ASME SecVIII vessels?

Your help is appreciated,

Steve

RE: Non-Standard (Non-ASME B16.5) Pipe Flange?

I don't recognise the dimensions in terms of any standards, and neither is the gasket of standard size. However that's not a problem, simply design your flange to ASME VIII Div 1 App. 2 or to ASME VIII Div 2 rules.

RE: Non-Standard (Non-ASME B16.5) Pipe Flange?

Or if you're replacing in kind, I wouldn't think you need to do any design.  It's probably just a paperwork issue to comply with Sec VIII and/or NBIC.

If no one here has the answer, you might check next forum over at the Boiler & Pressure Vessel engineering board.
