modifier for RC shearwalls in tension

modifier for RC shearwalls in tension

(OP)
When is it allowed to use a modifier of 0.35 for walls? From what I know this is done when the wall is in tension. Anyone please give me procedure how this is done in the software itself and if possible, a manual check also. Thanks in advance.

RE: modifier for RC shearwalls in tension

The 0.35 and 0.7 factor for shear walls account for the degree of cracking in the walls. Overturning moments induce a flexural tension, which sometimes exceed the capacity of concrete and induces cracking.

A manual check would be do a P/A - M/S to see if there is a tension in the wall and if it exceeds 7.5 sqrt (fc'). Usually computer programs let you see stress outputs and you can set the parameter to show any stress levels that are higher than the modulus of rupture of concrete (f't)
