What is Lutite?

What is Lutite?

What is Lutite?

(OP)
I have been going round and round with geologists in Peru about what exactly Lutite is.  Can anyone tell me or point me into the right direction.

RE: What is Lutite?

I've done a heck of a lot more than that.  I'll just go to the university when I get back.

RE: What is Lutite?

I am very sorry, It appears you have been trapped by localized usage. It appears the term is almost useless, except for local definition/identification.

From AGI Dictionary of Geological Terms:
Lutite, A general name for rocks composed of material that was once mud, e.g. shale, mudstone, calcilutite.

I can't do any better using my Petrology Texts.

Using the Geological Nomenclature, Royal Geological & Mining Society of the Netherlands, 1959,
Lutite, any rock composed of fine particles of silt or clay.

RE: What is Lutite?

that's it. one more note: geologists used that to describe fine-grained carbonate (only) rocks

Thanks for the help,
Take Care,
Andy

RE: What is Lutite?

Lutite is Luddite misspelled...it's a generic term meaning "geotechnical engineer"
