Reslope Pool Deck

Reslope Pool Deck

Reslope Pool Deck

(OP)
The elevated community pool in Key West has a twelve-foot wide deck all around it that slopes three inches toward the pool. We need to slope it three inches away from the pool, so we need to add an impervious overlay of six inches at the pool edge and narrow it to almost nothing at the far edge twleve feet away. Weight is a problem. We need something weighing no more than 40 pcf and that can be built using local contractors. Anybody have any ideas?

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

I take it that the elevation of the top of the existing deck at the edge of the pool is at least 6" below the lip of the pool?

If this is a wood deck, why not use a plywood overlay over new sleepers and apply a waterproof membrane over it...

If it is concrete, you might try 3" of lightweight concrete over a tapered rigid insulation filler as needed.   Even normal weight would work at 40 psf.  But the thickness would still taper to zero at the outside edge and would be a problem unless you can maintain the 3" depth throughout.

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

Mike,
He said 40 pcf for an "impervious overlay", which may be the reason for no suggestions before yours.

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

OK.  Missed that.

Then just hot tar the darn thing and call it good.

Provide an acetone footwash at the side of the pool too.

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

what about a cellular concrete.  There is a product called goefill that may work.  See here:

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

Not solved yet.  Tar is heavy, and Geofill is pervious.

Thanks everybody for your help. The deck has since been x-rayed and it was found that no top steel was put in, the bottom steel was less than the original plans specified, the slab thickness varied from six to eight inches and the bottom cover probably averaged an inch. I'm no longer working on the project. Thanks again.

RE: Reslope Pool Deck

They do make and impervious geofill. Or at least I'm almost positive. Some as light as 20 pcf. I'll try to look and see if I can find it on the website.
