Fillet welds in cold formed steel following AWS D1.3

Fillet welds in cold formed steel following AWS D1.3

(OP)
I have been reading alot about welding for cold formed memebers (11 and 13 gauge)have found that they recommend GMAW,SMAW and FCAW. I also read in AISC 13th edition that fillet welds do not prequalify for GMAW. I have some shop dwgs with fillet welds shown all over the cold formed connections.

Does AWS D1.3 have an allowance for GMAW fillet welds?

If not then I assume that SMAW or FCAW would be prequalified, is this correct?

RE: Fillet welds in cold formed steel following AWS D1.3

yes GMAW fillets are prequalified (with limites), review AWS 1.3 2008 para 3.2.2 and figure 3.2A, 3.2B, and 3.2C.

Thank you, I do not have access to AWS 1.3 would you highlight the limits or post these sections.

Thanks again
