Symmetric model output issues

Symmetric model output issues

Symmetric model output issues

(OP)
Hey all,

I have an existing PEMB building that I am trying to model to determine whether or not structural modifications (ie additional x-bracing or portal frames) will be needed for an addition to the building.  I have attached the model for review.  When evaluating wind loading in the Z-direction I am getting two differing results for the corner columns of the symmetric building and I can't for the life of me figure out why.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Symmetric model output issues

I think your gravity is going the wrong way.

Nevermind.  Finally figured it out after 2+ hours of troubleshooting.  I had my self weight gravity load in the x-direction instead of the y-direction.  Not completely sure why this affected the model the way it did though.  So I guess I have a little more research to do.

Wow,

Good call JAE.  I was just typing that I realized that.  Why does this affect the output the way it did?

RE: Symmetric model output issues

Well - you had a Z direction wind and an X direction gravity which resulted in an angled resultant to an otherwise symmetrical frame.  I assume, upon changing to -Y gravity you have symmetrical results now right?
