A358 304L Design Temperature

A358 304L Design Temperature

(OP)
Hello,
I have an A358 304L Class 1 pipe I would like to have a design temperature in of 880F. It is a vent pipe going to atmosphere passing steam at around 37000lb/hr.
ASME B31.1 Table A-3 stops the entries for Maximum Allowable Stress Values in Tension at 800F. Is it code compliant to have a design temperature above this value?
The design pressure is very low so the MAWP still passes if I interpolate the stress past 800F.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry, I should have been able to answer this myself.
For the record, Note e) for table A-3 states no materials shall be used at design temperatures above those for which allowable stress values are given.

RE: A358 304L Design Temperature

It is one item in "the code" that has no basis in logic ( 304 with 0.02C is acceptable above 800F, UNLESS it is marked 304L ). I aggravated a member of ASME board over 30 yr ago, by copying him on a memo pointing out it was a "capracious" rule: I guess ASME is not going to change it.
