3D Centerline in drawing

3D Centerline in drawing

3D Centerline in drawing

(OP)
Im getting 3d centerlines far away outside two different drawings. I dont know where they come from and why they are there. Both drawings got long pipes. I would not have noticed them if i didnt zoom out very much. It seems nothing happens when i remove them but i kind of wonder why they show up in first place.

Does NX add centerlines by itself?

RE: 3D Centerline in drawing

Yes, while in Drafting go to...

Preferences -> View -> General

...and there's an option titled 'Centerlines'.  If this is toggled ON then when you place a Drawing view the system will attempt to create any 2D or 3D centerlines in the view that it can.  Now toggling this OFF before manually placing your Drawing views will prevent them from being created.  However, if you're using a Drawing template you will need to open the master template file and edit each of the views toggling this option OFF if you do NOT want this automatic creation behavior in the future when creating a Drawing using the templates.

RE: 3D Centerline in drawing

What JJL79 is talking about is a kind of bug, that I have also faced.

Sometimes, while updating the drawing these centerlines appear either exactly aligned to the sheet boundary or outside the sheet boundary , so you can not make them out until you switch off pattern and take the hard copy printout.

One workaround that I use to get rid of them is, close the file without saving and reopen and update all the drawing sheets. Sometimes re-updating the Up to Date drawing also helps.

Thank you both for the information. I just want to ask if it is ok to delete them because man2007's workaround does not appear get rid of them in my case, or are they actually needed when they show up on the screen?

RE: 3D Centerline in drawing

The reason why the workaround did not work for you is, you are trying it on an already saved file. (i.e. file saved with these centerlines)

Deleting them does not harm in any way (if you are fortunate :)), but careful observation of the drawing tells that these are not accidentally created centerlines! In other words these have been moved away from existing view/views.
I mean to say, if you have older version of the drawing file, compare it with the new one, you can find out from which view/views (in the new version) these center lines are missing. Worst thing that can happen is, if you had given dimensions to these center lines, the dimensions will become out of date once you delete the centerlines.
