Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

(OP)
Using Catia V5R19;

Is there any way to multi-select components while using the "reuse pattern" feature, or do I have to create a product of these multiple components and use the product as the component?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

No can do.  1 reuse pattern to 1 component.

Is there any way to "group" or make "blocks" of components within the assembly workbench?

I'm depressed, but "You guys are great!" for taking the time to answer any questions.

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

The component will make a logical sub assembly (parts put into a sub branch of the tree, that behaves just like a sub assembly but only exists as part of the parent assembly). Or there is fix together (spatial relationship between the components maintained unless us expicitly change it), depending on exactly what you mean by group

What I mean by "grouping" components is selecting multiple parts & creating a union or a set. "Fix together" does that but it only works for move and not copy or patterning. One way that I'm aware of is to create a product of the multiple parts that need to be patterned, but this is more work.

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

Do it as a component then

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

(OP)
Doing it as a component eliminates individual parts that I would need to have in the bill of material.

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

No a component is a logical product, not a part and is therefore part of the bill of materials

How do you create a component in Catia?

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

right click on product, insert new component.

That's what I do! My understanding is a "component" can be either a part or a product. PeterGuy, are you talking about a catalog component?

RE: Multi-Selecting Components While Using The ôReuse Patternö Feature

under the insert menu there are three new things you can insert; part, product and component

Part is a new catpart
Product is a new catproduct (sub assembly)
Component is a logical grouping entity (has similar behaviour to a product but does not have file and does not exist outside of the parent product)
