"Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

"Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

"Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

(OP)
I would like to buy a new workstation.
My choice is "Dell T1500.
The configuration is:
Xeon E3-1280
NVIDIA Quadro 2000
8GB ECC DDR3 memory
256GB Solid State Drive.
In your opinion is a good choice for NX7?

Thank you all.
Ciao.

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

Check the Siemens certified hardware list before you purchase.

The T1500 model is very recent.
I think that will be certified later.

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

Since price wasn't mentioned, a great workstation would be the Dell T7500 having this type of configuration ...

Xeon E5620; Quad 2.40GHz,12M L3, 5.86GT/s, 3.33Ghz in turbo mode
8Gb or 12Gb ECC DDR3 memory
If NX works with TcEng, then a 1Tb SATA 3.0Gb/s primary HDD and a 250Gb SATA 3.oGb/s seconday drive in non-RAID configuration is ideal.
16X DVD +/- RW
26-inch monitor LCD (or two monitors. It's insane, but I run the CAD and ANSYS this way.)
2.5Gb nVidia Quadro 4000 or 5000 with Dual Monitor, 2DP & 1DVI

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

I go with bmaverick, currently working on T7400, its a pleasure. Also run NX+TC and Ansys. Got two quad cores, but i think next workstation will be single core and more RAM because most of the programs arent (yet) multithreaded or in the case of Ansys13 you need to buy a license per core extra (bummer).

Best regards,

Michaël.

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

I doubt you can find a single core machine anymore.
Besides, a dual or quad core allow you to run the heavy app in its own core and let the other core(s) run the OS, email word, etc.

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

Sorry Ben , you're correct but i mean a single CPU machine (with quad cores).

But the point i was making is that the RAM has more influence on the performance than the amount of cores.

Also when working with Team Center the network connection is very important. We have a sister company in China (Shanghai) and corporate IT will move the server to Singapore we predict problems with latency but are talking to deaf mans ears.

Michaël.

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

You may be better with 2 dual-core machines than a quad-core one. There is overhead that takes some of the 'power' from each core.
1 core = 100%
2 core = 160%
4 core = 240%

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

They told me the T1500 is being phased out, the T1600 is the new one.  This is a good level of workstation for NX, I'm considering buying a few (pretty much the exact same config as you posted) instead of 'white-box' custom PC's.  My quote from Dell a week ago was just under $2,200 each with corporate and volume discounts.

I'm speccing the FX 600 graphics card instead of the 2000, but thats a tough call.  If you have the cash, jump on the better one.

Base Unit:
Dell Precision T1600 Standard Base (225-0458)

Processor:
Quad Core Xeon E3-1270, 3.40 GHz, 8M L3, 0GT, Turbo, Dell Precision T1600 (317-6060) (almost identical to the i7-2600)

Memory:
8GB, DDR3 ECC SDRAM Memory 1333MHz, 4X2GB Dell Precision T1600 (317-6600)

Video Card:
1GB nVIDIA Quadro 600,Dual Monitor,1DP and 1DVI,Dell Precision T1600 (320-1896)

Hard Drive:
256GB 2.5,Solid State Drive, Dell Precision T1600 (342-2156)

RE: "Dell T1500" is the workstation right?

I should add my quote includes Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 and windows 7 x64 (obviously), and some 2-yr 'pro' warranty that was part of the discount scheme.

I have some 3-4 year old higher level precision workstations that were dogs.  They were built more like servers than snappy workstations, I really have a bad taste in my mouth from them.
