Extracting the correct info from a cosmos study

Extracting the correct info from a cosmos study

(OP)
Hi There,

I'm trying to verify the results of a cosmos analysis of a solid disc flywheel to my theoretical calculations.

The model is pretty simple - a 45 degree wedge with the software material properties, 2 flat face restraints along with a fixed edge restraint. A centrifugal load along the axis with the angular velocity.

The results seem fine, but I'm struggling to extract the radial and tangential stress at a certain defined point - a point that I need to verify the design and my calculations.

Cosmos help files tell me I need to define the plots using my center axis as a reference and then use the probe tool to probe these points at the desired location.

Can anybody give a tip on how to accomplish this? I'm sure its a simple thing to do - Soildworks provide a verification example of a very similar example, but no explanation on how they extract the results.

I forgot to mention - I'm using cosmsworks 2007 (and that i feel like a noob for asking this question).

Many Thanks

The probe tool is on the tool bar. You click in the graphics window, then the icon then pick nodes. You can't see the nodes generally but the mouse will snap to them. If you can visualize the mesh that helps in finding them.

Thanks kellnerp,

You are of course correct. After a nights sleep I also found the stress plot function. I'll practice patience in future and read up before asking <* closes eyes and shows left cheek to accept backhand slap *>

Thanks again.

You can also make use of the Split Line feature to put extra edges and vertices on your model that can be easily probed at with the probe tool set to "on entities".
