Adding mates in assys very slow? ... A possible solution found

(OP)
If your assys are suffering from sluggish performance when adding or editing mates, a possible solution was found by Tim Dunbar in https://forum.solidworks.com/message/218112#218112

Basically, Tim found that some of his assys had been assigned a custom property for Material. Removal of this property returned normal performance when adding mates.
