Making a cavity into a solid

Making a cavity into a solid

Making a cavity into a solid

(OP)
I'm running ST2 in traditional mode.  I have a supplied part with some complex cavities in it.  I would like to make the "core" for these cavities.  Typically I would use boolean operation but due to the thin wall and complex shape of the part this doesn't work.  I would think there is a way to cap the ends and fill the void but I can't figure it out. Is there an easy way to do this?

RE: Making a cavity into a solid

It should work if you have a block that completely encloses your part. You would then need to cut away the outer parts to leave the cavity.
You could try an Inter-Part copy rather than a part copy and just copy in the internal surfaces. Then you would need to stitch these surfaces together to form a solid.

Where would we be without sat-nav?

Due to the complex curves and thin wall on this part, using a solid block, using the boolean command, and then removing the excess isn't an option.  I have never used the inter-part copy before and I now know why, the option is greyed out.  All of the options are on in my solid edge options but I am unable to use this command.  Any suggestions?

RE: Making a cavity into a solid

The inter-part copy is available for copying faces from one model to another but it has to be done via an assembly, because you need both parts.
Make an assembly of your part then add the cavity part.
Edit-in-place the cavity part and then the inter-part-copy should be available.
Could you post an image of the part?

Turns out this is exactly what I was looking for.  Once I figured out how it works it was pretty easy.  It was simply a matter of selecting all the surfaces, capping the ends, stitching them together, then use the boolean command.  Thanks for your help.
