Exported PDF issues

Exported PDF issues

Exported PDF issues

(OP)
Having a problem with exported PDF's. When I open a NX6 or older and NX7 or newer pdf, it shows all sheets of the document. When I try to print a NX6 or older pdf it will print all sheets. When I try to print a NX7 or newer pdf, it will ONLY print sheet 1.

This is using a Ricoh printer/plotter and the appropriate Ricoh print viewer. After investigating this on my end, the Ricoh drivers are the same as they were when we used NX6. Does anyone know if the internal process that generates pdfs in NX7 and newer is any different ?

RE: Exported PDF issues

I cannot reproduce this.

Using NX 6.0.5.3 and NX 7.0.1.7, I created from each a two-page PDF file using...

File -> Export -> PDF...

...and then printed it on my Epson Stylus Photo R800 (I'm working from home today) ink jet printer and in each case both pages were printed with no problems.

Attached are the two PDF files for you to test.

Hi John,
Ok, those two worked. Try one in 7.5 please. I will generate a multi-page doc and post it.

Thanks,
Kirk

Ok, take a look at the attached and see how it prints. For me, I have to print it one sheet at a time as with any NX pdf generated here. I am almost thinking we need to uninstall and reload.

RE: Exported PDF issues

It printed just fine, both pages in one print operation, on my Epson inkjet.  Note that I used the free version of Adobe Reader so that's about as basic as you can get.  From what I can see there's nothing wrong with NX, but rather it's either your print driver or the application which you're printing the PDF files from.

AN UPDATE:  I'm back in my office today and I just tested your 2-page PDF document using one of our network connected printers, a 'Xerox WorkCentre 5645 PS', and it worked just fine, printing both pages in a single print operation.

RE: Exported PDF issues

@Alderfek, I printed your PDF and got both pages on a Brother MFC-9440CN. I have heard of PDF printing problems before when trying to print NX PDFs but usually geometry missing from the print, not entire sheets.

In those cases, only certain printers at the same site would have troubles, yet others would be OK.

This sounds similar to those problems. I would start by looking at printer drivers, even if they have not changed.
You could also try as a test, renaming the NXPLOT folder for NX7 and using the NXPLOT folder from NX6 to see if the PDF processing from NX6 will work for NX7? It's a fudge, but it might help.

RE: Exported PDF issues

Yes, but he's not actually 'plotting', but rather is using File -> Export to create his PDF files.  I still think it's either the printer software or whatever it is that he's using to open the PDF file for printing, such as his copy of Abobe Reader or whatever it was that he's using to open his PDF files for printing.  I think it's been demonstrated that whatever the problem is, that it's not really an  NX issue, but rather something else.

RE: Exported PDF issues

John, I would agree, but I know from experience that there are certain printers & NX combinations that cause issues.

In this case it wouldn't hurt to try. The PDF conversion is done from the NXPLOT folder (CGM2PDF if I recall) so swapping to the NX6 version to test would prove if it's NX or the driver that's at fault.
