Small Generator Reactance Values

Small Generator Reactance Values

(OP)
Hello,

I am looking for subtransient (X"dv), transient (X'dv) and zero sequence (X0v) reactance for a small 25 kW, 0.8 pf generator.  Does anyone have a source for typical values?

The manufacturer was not helpful.

Thank you in advance.

RE: Small Generator Reactance Values

I believe Caterpillar has this data on some of their gen-set datasheets that are available on their website - but they may not go this small.

Hi Dave,

yes that is the issue.  this is a cat and the rep that I deal with has not had any success in getting the info.  Most of the published info, including generic stuff in reference books, is geared towards larger generators.

this is for an arc flash study.

RE: Small Generator Reactance Values

Cat's Specsizer software doesn't list data for such small machines. Sorry. sad

RE: Small Generator Reactance Values

In Conrad's book, there is a Figure E-3 that shows "small" engine driven generators.  The very low end (about 100 kVA, I'd guess), shows an X"d of about 13%.

I had some data for a small machine, but I can't find it.  I'll keep looking....

Thanks Dave.  I do have Conrads book and saw that but was still wondering about smaller units.

Thanks for keeping looking!

waross, thank you!  thank should be good for this work.

There is also information on the Leroy-Somer site, but you need the Leroy-Somer number from the generator end to locate the correct page.
