I searched the threads for information on limiting values of PPV for buried pipes and only found references to criteria for buildings, plaster, concrete foundations etc... I need references for construction vibration effects on buried pipelines.

I know for buried structures like tunnels we design them to take displacements from seismic events rather than resist them and take the forces, so it seems to me that provided the joints can take the vibration displacements (which will be small) that the limiting PPV for buried pipes should be a lot higher than we set for buildings. I'm currently working with a limiting PPV of 0.5 in/sec. This value is based on USBM criteria for cosmetic cracking of old houses with plaster. I need to find references or do a dynamic analysis to show that this value is not applicable to a buried cast iron pipeline and can be set higher.

Any Thoughts?
