Analysis Workstation Advice

Analysis Workstation Advice

(OP)
Hello all,

I need to look into possible work stations for Abaqus. Can anyone suggest any good systems? I would be interested in price comparisons of 32BG, 64GB and 96GB machines with a decent process to match.

I look forward to any suggestions and advice.

RE: Analysis Workstation Advice

Can you provide more details regarding the type of analysis you will perform?
I have a Precision M4400 dell, @ 8 Gb of RAM and cor duo @ 2.26GHz, which fulfils pretty well my needs...

I wondered if there were any systems specifically built for analysis tasks. What are the things I should consider. I know the basic such as a fast process, lots of RAM, etc. But I was looking to see if anyone knows more about specific systems which are designed for analysis type work. E.g. a specific type of processor, etc.

Simply put my models tend to get bigger and more detailed and more accurate, so hence the need for a specific workstation.

Thanka again.

RE: Analysis Workstation Advice

I can't recommend a specific system but most people overlook the hard drive. If your models are very large than Abaqus will need to use the HD to store/retrieve info during the analysis so the access speed can have a big effect on the speed of the analysis.

Really good point thanks DanStro

RE: Analysis Workstation Advice

There are machine builded for abaqus analysis by HP.
Look on google for "hp + abaqus " and you'll get some .pdf infos.

I've a HP DL 585 G5, quad-quadcore with 60GB of memory and it works great, even if for my kind of analysis is not the top....i wonder two or three of this server linked togheter ;)

For any question ask!

RE: Analysis Workstation Advice

I know of one corporation that uses 16 cheap linux boxes as a supercomputer cluster for FEA. If your jobs are big and you can afford the licenses that may be a cost effective solution. OTOH a decent RAID card may be your best investment.

Cheers
