measuring a radius

measuring a radius

measuring a radius

(OP)
Hi,
I have to measure the radius of a needle.
I attached a drawing of needle, where you can see that the dimension of the needle radius is R=0.2032 ± 0.0025 (0.008"±0.0001").
Today we use a "Conefocal"  microscope (the system bolong to another company, and very expensive, price of 60,000 $)
We want to buy cheap system which have the same measuring precision.
"Conefocal"  precision at zoom of X 100:   Z axis=10 nm ;  X,Y axis=120nm
The measuring area on the radius on X,Y axis, is 0.12mmX0.12mm
thanks

Optical comparator, toolmaker's microscope...

RE: measuring a radius

In addition to the above here is another approach to measurement.
Look at the VZM 200 or 3D CX-3000.  Here is a link to Caltex Scientific. Take a look at the measurement software it has both measurement and comparison capability.
Some of this type software can be used on captured images from other sources.
There many makers of this type instrument.

The frequency of the inspections should determine your investment in the measuring process.  If this must be checked several times per hour, then a very expensive equipment is justified - even automation of measurements.
If only 1x/month or so, then your contract inspection is best economics.  I agree with btrueblood (Mechanical) - many makers of this equipment.  OGP, Nikon, Sony, Zeiss.

RE: measuring a radius

Junid,

There are a couple of off the shelf 2D, high precision sensors, that will measure a profile.  We have used Omron and Keyence in the past.  Price point for this level of measurement with this level of accuracy is going to be around $7-14 thousand for the sensor, with some additional money for a computer and programming.
