Within design condition?

Within design condition?

Within design condition?

(OP)
Hi
I have a pipe system with design 75bar@110C. The pump gives a pressure of 78bar@20C and 72bar@110C due to the density charateristic of methanol. The 72bar case gives the highest usage factor. Is the 78bar case within design? For sure it is safe but what does the code say?

RE: Within design condition?

What material is your pipesystem, regular A-105, 106B ?

RE: Within design condition?

Yes!

The design and the allowble stresses are according to EN-13480 and not ASME values. The allowable stress at 20C are therefore not the same as at 100C. I was just curious what the ASME code says about exceeding the design pressure (at a low temperature).

RE: Within design condition?

I should say it's sufficient.
Checked some pipespecs and in that range the p/t rating decreases with approx. 15%.
You have no specs with p/t rating out there?

RE: Within design condition?

Yes I found the p/t-rating and we are on the correct side.

Thanks for the response!
