FEM Concrete Software

FEM Concrete Software

(OP)
Hello,
It's been some years now that I have been using Prokon Frame Analysis for finite element modeling and design of concrete structures, notably slabs. It only recently occurred to me to check what FE formulation they use and found out that it's a Discreet Kirchhoff-Mindlin, which I know should be better than a Kirchhoff or Mindlin alone, because I wouldn't need to switch calculations for thin and thick plates.
For that matter, I wanted to see 'out there' what are the FE formulations being used in the softwares you guys use. And what are your opinions on them?
I read that MITC should be the latest one and that few softwares only can calculate it. How better is it? Not?
As for the design of a plane stress structure, say a shear wall, how would you go about finding the required reinforcement using FE? And the FE software that you use, can they do plane stress well? And based on what FE formulations?
Frame Analysis from Prokon suggest to use a simple shell structure and simply specify a user-defined shear area.
Any comments and recommendations on the above is welcomed.

Ben.
