Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

I think i posted this in the wrong place earlier. I have a Catia part that has a series of countersunk holes in it. When make a drawing view from this part all the holes do not show. Any ideas I have a feeling it is something easy to fix. I Have been using Solidworks for a few years. The company I work for is going thru a switch to Catia. I hope I posted this in the correct place. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 'all the holes do not show' - are they in a pattern? Do some of the holes show but not all of them? Without more information as to what's going on, my only suggestion is to play around with the settings under Properties for the view > right click on the view name or the view frame, select properties, and adjust the settings there under 'dress up'. I briefly tried this & none of the settings made the countersunk holes disappear though - just the center lines, threads, axes, etc.

If this doesn't help, try posting a screen shot of the 3D model & the generated view. Or perhaps someone else has run into what you're getting & can comment directly.

Sorry I wasnt more clear. Here is a picture of the model with the holes I am talking about.

Here is the generated view.

I have messed with the dress up setting some and that dosent seem to be doing it. I was wondering if there a setting in the model when making holes or features that you can "turn them off" in the generated drawing view?

RE: Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

Your situation is certainly unique - I've never seen that before. I spent some time trying to replicate the issue you're seeing and I can't do it, so unfortunately I don't have any other advice to offer. It's interesting to note that the 6 holes along the two sides without countersink are also not showing up. Anyway, if you figure it out, please let us know. Good luck!

I have asked many people I would call power users in Catia with the same answer. I will keep digging and will definitely post if I figure it out. I am convinced it is a setting in the model since that model feeds two drawings with the same results. If anyone else has any input I would love to hear it.

RE: Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

is the last feature of your solid a transformation or a pattern or a deactivated feature?

I have seen strange behavior with solid before.

a solution i had was to add a Boolean operation with an empty solid.

RE: Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

two ideas:

1. What is the Defined Work Object in the 3D Model?  Maybe it's not the last feature of the solid, making the drawing only show features down to the underlined feature.

2. Check the view properties (bottom of the page) to make sure it is not set to ignore features that are larger than the hole size.

I agree with Eric that deactivated last features might be the cause. We've seen this before, but it usually makes empty views instead of incomplete views. We always activate or delete the feature. Never heard of the empty Boolean trick before.

The defined work object is a hole. It is not the last thing in the list but if i define the last thing in the list the holes disappear in the model. When you say check the view properties at the bottom of the page is this the same thing as a RT click on the view in the tree, properties?

RE: Catia V5 dissapeering holes.

Whoa - if you make the part body, or rather the last feature in the list as 'defined in work object', the holes disappear? If so, that's exactly your problem. The drafting workbench generates views based on the final feature of the partbody, not the current in-work-object.

If making the last feature in the list as 'in-work object' causes the holes to disappear, then somewhere you have a feature which puts material wherever the holes exist. Either reorder your features or eliminate the offending features and your drawings should generate fine.

What feature is causing your holes to disappear?

Ok so the last features were surface thickens. I moved them all to the top and re-saved and updated views and the holes all came back into view. I appreciate everyone's help with this. I definitely have alot to learn on Catia. I keep thinking like im using Solidworks and some things couldn't be anymore different.
