Fixed Bearing - Pintle

Fixed Bearing - Pintle

Fixed Bearing - Pintle

(OP)
Does anyone have any information on design of a pintle for a fixed rocker bearing.  I am looking for the depth the pintle must be pressed into the masonry plate.  I realize 1" is a standard dimension and would be used on normal structure lengths.  I am looking for information that I can use on a short structure (longitudinal and transverse loads are small - dead load and live loads also).  The structure is multi-span and the span lengths vary from 20' to 40' with beam spacing of about 5.5'

I am looking to confirm a 3/4" press fit of the pintle with a 3/4"  to 1" thick sole plate used for the base plate.

Thanks

RE: Fixed Bearing - Pintle

Well you can do an analysis of this.

1.  You design the pintle based on the shear across the pintle.
2.  The pintle has to react against something to transfer the shear.  This it does by bearing against the plate it's embedded in.  So check the bearing stress on the pintle and plate.  This will give the the necessary thickness.
3.  Check that the code doesn't have some minimum to meet.

Done.
