Self weight/Dead Load applying loads laterally

Self weight/Dead Load applying loads laterally

Self weight/Dead Load applying loads laterally

(OP)
Hi all,
I'm just starting to learn etabs but i am having an irregular problem that i think has to do with wrong settings or preferences but i cant seem to find anything wrong.

First off, the building is a 4 story concrete building with gravity columns and interior shear walls. The model runs seismic/lateral loads fine and calculates the building weight correctly but the dead load coming from the self weight of the the structure seems to be distributing much more to one side and having an uplift force on the other almost as if the load is being applied laterally. So far, i have only checked the shear walls. any helps and/or tips are appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Self weight/Dead Load applying loads laterally

Post your model. Are you sure all your columns have restraints at the bottom?

RE: Self weight/Dead Load applying loads laterally

There is a point load of 500 kips applied at the Roof level at (1200,549.6) in the Y direction and a point load of 100 kips at the 4th Floor @ (1332,120).

The easiest way to see is to do the following.

Turn off all visibility except for point objects
Then Display -> show loads -> joint/point loads -> DEAD

This will display all the point objects on the building and any points loads applied to it.

Thank you so much. Didnt realize it would be something so simple. I used point loads early on before i had the seismic info for simple checks, and i thought i deleted them. i guess i forgot.

Thanks again.
