Rating Bridge for the transportation of OS/OW Vehycles

(OP)
Hi guys!

I'm a new member of forum. I come from Vietnam. Just like you all, I'm a Bridge Engineer. I'm working for a Superheavy Items Transportation Company. Items like generators, turbine, and equipment for oil drilling frame... My main responsibility is to rate bride load to ensure the safety of bridge during Superheavy Truck Convoy passing.

This is a new and different sections that I haven't done before. I also found out some materials on the Internet that address to my interest. However, I want to know your pratices experience.

So I creat this topic to welcome all of you who is interested in this question like me.

RE: Rating Bridge for the transportation of OS/OW Vehycles

Welcome.

As you note your from Vietnam I understand that there are codes there for bridges which should be helpful.  Do you rate bridges only in Vietnam or in other parts of the world?

Here in the US, it's common for the bridge owner to rate the bridge and not the transport company.  However, if the bridge is complex it may be rated by a consulting engineering firm for the actual load.

You may want to start out by finding out who owns the bridges you want to transport across and discuss with them their requirements for rating.

You will also need have a fairly general purpose Finite Element Analysis program for 2 and 3 dimensional ratings.  Programs such as MIDAS or LARSA.  You'll likely need something international so taht you can get the Vietnam code or code to where ever you're shipping.

Good Luck.
