WPS by ASME 31.3 impact test

WPS by ASME 31.3 impact test

(OP)
Hello, i have a concept problem with ASME B31.3:

- Welding ASTM 312 TP304 (maximun thickness 24,5 mm) for low temperature services (-196ºC) based in gas company specification (ENAGAS EV-10). It is specified ASME IX as qualification procedures code, and ASME B31.3 as engineering design code. .
- WPS preliminary (12,7 mm thickness) was done with impact testing limits of ASME IX (from 12,7 mm to 25,4 mm). My client said WPS limits must be apply as ASME B31.3 table 323.3.1 (T/2 to T+6.4mm). So, they push me to carry on impact test on two welded coupons (12, 7 mm and 19,7 mm). What i dont understand:

a) ASME B31.3 Chapter IV indicated ASME IX requeriments wiht some restriction, but any link connects with table 323.3.1.
b) Table 323.3.1 will apply for manufactures and fabrication material testing only.

Thanks for your comments

RE: WPS by ASME 31.3 impact test

The design Code (B31.3) governs the thickness limits. Your welding procedure is not qualified for the thickness 25.4 mm thick material under B31.3.
