Boiler Tube Plugs
Boiler Tube Plugs
(OP)
I keep getting conflicting information regarding acceptable material for boiler tube plugs. I find SA-36 plugs readily available, but some have said that plugs must be made of SA-105 and not SA-36. Anyone else being told this?

Consider expansion plugs (Torque'n seal) for your application. They have been around for a long time

These wrench-actuated plugs work well in tight places where hammer driven plugs may not work.
They do, of course, cost a bit more.
Are you maintaining a tubesheet "plugging map" ? These become invaluable when evaluating the HX for future retube/replace decisions.
tell us more about the HX......

You have plugged boilers with Torq-N-seals?

Metengr....if using SA-s6 then one should perform a thickness calculation? Taperred plug could then be machined to assure at least the calculated thickness is driven into the tube or tubehole.
