Hole Callouts, Dual Dimensioning and Precision

Hole Callouts, Dual Dimensioning and Precision

Hole Callouts, Dual Dimensioning and Precision

(OP)
Hello all,

I wish to modify the precision of the secondary units in a blind hole callout. Moreso, I wish to have the secondary units precision for the diameter to be different than the precision for the depth.

The hole call-out would look like this:
Ø.165[4.20] <HOLE-DEPTH> .57[14.4]

So, the secondary units precision for the diameter and the depth are different. When I attempt to adjust it on the dimension properties tab, both fields change simultaneously. This leads me to believe that that modifier applies globally to all dual dimensions on that in that callout.

Is this the correct assumption? Is what I'm asking for not possible? Is there an option check box I need to mark? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

RE: Hole Callouts, Dual Dimensioning and Precision

In the part file click on the feature that holds the dimension you want to change.  Pick that dimension and you can change its displayed precision to be different from the rest, which are controlled by the default/global settings of that file.  I haven't tried it, but this might be the way to control how it is displayed on the drawing.

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, it looks like something in the drawing overrides the model dimension display properties. I have looked for an option box to "use model dimension precision" but have not had any luck so far.

RE: Hole Callouts, Dual Dimensioning and Precision

click on the hole callout and look at the Tolerance/Precision block in the property tab. You can specify both for each item in the hole callout. The dual dimension box is at the bottom and can be set for each.
That should get you what  you need.

Did you try that? I am running 64-bit Solidworks 2010 SP 2.1 and that does not work for me.

As I wrote in my original post, even if I select the item  I wish to change (tap drill depth, for example), the dual dimension box will still change the entire call-out, not just that field.
