Good morning everyone,

Welded with A 106 grade B material witha 6010 root and 7010 and 7018 fill/cap, based on tensile strenght of electrode and materials, let me know if I'm correct, this qualifies:
1. P1 group 1,2,3 materials right? although group 3 is 70k material, charpy impast testing is not required, so I'm thinking it can be welded with the WPS

2. API 5L X-42, X-46, X-52 materials too since they're all under 70k of tensile right?

3. Finally, in the PQR the actual p1 group 1 to p1 group 1 was specified, but the in WPS, I can simply put P1 to P1, or do I have to specify group 1,2&3 to group 1,2&3 too?

Hello,
if the design specification does not require impact test, your WPS is qualified to any P1 to any other P1. It is not necesarry specify group nunbers

Mysarah,
If you're qualifying to ASME sec IX  refer to the list of applicable essential variables for the process(es) in question.  As noted above, for non impact qualified WPS' Group number is not an essential variable.  QW 422 provides a list of P#'s.
This is not to say that some customers won't impose more restrictive limitations.
For example, say your tensiles break in the base at 61 ksi.  Some might argue that the procedure hasn't shown that you've proved it fit for 70 ksi materials, however, there's a rather lengthy interpretation that dealt with this matter.  See IX-79-43

Thanks weldtek for the Interpretation reference, this subject keeps coming up more and more lately (using E6010 to weld SA516-70).  Previously A-106 would have actually been S number, not P number, but I think they are now all P numbers.
