I'm having some difficulty doing some basic operations in ST3, but perhaps it is because I don't understand synchronous mode well enough.  Is it possible to hide, suppress, or delete part features after constructing them in synchronous mode, or would I have to be in ordered mode for that?

RE: Solid Edge ST3 hiding, suppressing, or deleting part features

When using Synchronous you should think of a part as a bunch of faces, not features. The feature tree in Synchronous is more to help you identify a group of faces. Faces cannot be suppressed but you can detach them from the model.
It is quite a leap from V20 to ST3 so I would recommend that you get a bit of training. Check out this link, it is free for all customers on maintenance. http://support.ugs.com/general/sespt.shtml

Ahh, ok, that makes sense now.  I was wondering why faces would be highlighted when mousing over features in the PathFinder.  Part of my confusion stems from the Live Rules as well.  I'm starting to get the hang of modifying the part using the steering wheel, but I can't seem to get the right modifications much of the time, probably because the live rules need to be changed.

For example, consider a truncated cone.  If I wanted to extrude a cylindrical section from either end, how would I need to set the live rules?  It currently wants to extrude with the taper of the base feature.

When selecting a face and the move ribbon appears, you will see drop-down options for  extend/trim, tip or lift.

Using the lift option should do the trick.
