High inductance value for DC electrovalve.

High inductance value for DC electrovalve.

High inductance value for DC electrovalve.

(OP)
Hi guys,

I have been investigating the characteristics of an DC electrovalve.

I have these data:
Vsupply: 80Vdc
r1: coil resistance (510 Ohms)
r_shunt: (to measure current) (118.1 Ohms)

I apply a step of 80V to the Rshunt+coil and get this graph.
Time constant is about 108ms.
So tau=L/R  then L= 0.108 * (510+118.1) = 68 Henries !!!!

is it not very much??

RE: High inductance value for DC electrovalve.

There are no mistakes in the measurements and no mistakes in your math. So the inductance is probably somewhere between 50 and 100 H.

That is not very much as hydraulic actuator coils go and quite low if it is a field winding. Time constants in field windings can easily be a second or more.

A valve that is Jammed solid , ie  no movement  will probably give more stable answers , and clues to real world problems  !
