CREATING A REVERSE PROFILE OF A MODEL

CREATING A REVERSE PROFILE OF A MODEL

CREATING A REVERSE PROFILE OF A MODEL

(OP)
Hello all,
Long time member, very few post (if any??). I am using SolidWorks 2011 Premium and would like some assistance with a problem. First, I must state that I am at best dangerous using the software. My experience with SolidWorks is sophomoric; and that is giving myself a lot of credit. What I want to do is take a model and create a reverse of one edge such that I can create a fixture for the part to sit upon my CMM. Any help or hints on where to start? Thanks for reading/posting. Please refer to my attached jpg for further clarification.

RE: CREATING A REVERSE PROFILE OF A MODEL

Stogy,

You have several options.  For one you can investigate the Cavity function in SWX.

However, if you have NC programming software, such as FeatureCam, you can have it create the fixture feature or part.  This dramatically simplified our work.  We just used the built-in function of FeatureCam and called it a day.  I suspect MasterCam and others have the same capability.

I agree that Cavity is your best option.

If you do not have the cavity option available, look up combine bodies in the help.

I would insert the part into a new empty part and offset the desired surfaces by "0" delete the original geometry then construct the remaining desired fixture geometry.  I hope this helps.
