Section Callouts Within Section Views Prohibited?

Section Callouts Within Section Views Prohibited?

Section Callouts Within Section Views Prohibited?

(OP)
Hi,

I want to confirm that Section Callouts Within Section Views are Prohibited to one of the ASME standards, which I think is ASME Y14.5M-2003 or 2004.

Is this correct & which ASME standard does this apply to?

Thanks

RE: Section Callouts Within Section Views Prohibited?

Yes, that would be ASME Y14.3-2003.  I only have the 1994 edition in front of me, and it says in paragraph 3.2.4 that "the cutting plane line should be shown through an exterior view and not through a sectional view."

Of course, it could be argued that "should" isn't the same thing as "shall," but in general they seem to frown upon taking a section view from another section view.
