Non-essential variable in ASME IX procedure
Non-essential variable in ASME IX procedure
(OP)
Hi all,
If the instructions for installation of a backing/sleeve to a pipe to be welded by ASME IX all happen to be non-essential variables like:
1. travel speen
2. progression, etc
and the once that appear to be essential are within the ranges of the variables specified in the WPS, can the instruction be attached to the WPS as a reference if the backing will be used for welding as opposed to adding lots of supplememtary information in the QWs of the WPS?
tHANKS.

to be specific: the tuboscope has the following instructions
1. application of expoxy--> this has not place in the WPS
2. Insertion of the sleeve--> the WPS was written with ans w/out backing
3. Using lowest heat setting possible--> this will ofcourse be the
lowest heat/amps setting allowed by the WPS
4. ventilation and protection from inclement weather--> has no crucial place in the WPS except for supplemetal information
5. Pre-heat not to exceed 250F--> ASME IX does not require re-qualification you pre-heat above 100F of what is on the WPS
6. weld downhill 7-10ipm--> the WPS has up and down hill and 4-12ipm
7. Interpass temp not to exceed 250F--> the WPS does not have a minimum but a max. interpass of 500-600F
It appears that all the instructions fall within the variables of the WPS, so in the space for supplemental information of the WPS, because of limited space, I wrote "see attached sheet for tuboscope instruction if it is to be used" does that sound okay or...?
Thanks a lot
